College Park, Md. - The Maryland softball team hosted a successful offseason tournament Saturday, downing George Washington 9-2 and Georgetown 6-4 in back-to-back games. Meredith Nelles got the win for the Terps in game one, while freshman Keri Hickey earned the victory in the second half of the doubleheader.
The highlight of the day came in game two when senior Sarde Stewart hit a three-run homer which struck the top of the scoreboard past center field.
Redshirt freshman Niki Lau, who missed all of last season due to injury, had an impressive Terrapin debut, going seven for eight at the plate.
Hickey showed off a strong arm in the pitcher's circle and a powerful bat at the plate, recording four doubles and a triple in the two games.
Saturday's games will not count towards next year's standings.
