Philadelphia - A combination of tough pitching and strong bats helped the Terrapins (13-8) take two from La Salle (4-6) on Friday afternoon, 3-1 and 11-2.
The Terps' first game was scoreless through four innings until Maryland posted a run in each of the final three innings. First baseman Kiesha Pickeral (Hughesville, Md.) went 2-for-4 with a homerun in the sixth and pinch hitter Jillian Callaway (Brandywine, Md.) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
The second game proved to be a hit parade for the Terps, as they put up seven runs in the third inning. Seven Maryland batters had at least one hit or one RBI in the game. Jen Peel (St. Leonard, Md.) anchored the Maryland offense, going 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBI. Samantha Sweeney (Marlton, N.J.) and Lauren Pollock (Severna Park, Md.) also had two hits apiece for the Terps.
The softball team will take on intrastate rival Towson (7-5) in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The game will be the first held in the team's new softball facility.
