COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will play this week's scheduled home doubleheader at Towson on Wednesday, weather permitting. The Terrapins, originally slated to play the games at home, will take on the Tigers (7-7) in a 2:30 p.m. twinbill at Towson Center Field.
Weekend rains in the area of the Maryland campus and completion of construction on the Terps' new state-of-the-art softball complex resulted in the schedule changes. A 90 percent chance of rain is in the forecast for Wednesday in the greater Baltimore area.
The Terrapins are now 13-8 and riding a four-game win streak after sweeping doubleheaders at Delaware and LaSalle last Thursday and Friday. Senior fireballer Amanda Bettker (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was credited with three victories and 23 strikeouts in 16.0 innings of work. Her ERA now stands at 0.97 - good enough for second in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
At the plate, slugger Kiesha Pickeral (Hughesville, Md.) led the way for the Terps, going 4-for-8 (.500) with a home run, a double and three RBI. Her senior classmate Beth Radford (Dunkirk, Md.) put in a 5-for-12 (.417) effort that included a two-bagger and six RBI.
