COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior outfielder Niki Lau of the Maryland softball team was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Softball team Thursday afternoon. Lau, who will graduate this month, was named to the District's second team.
A kinesiology major from Centennial, Colo., Lau was recently named a Dean's Scholar from the University of Maryland School of Public Health. The recipient is chosen by the School of Public Health's faculty.
An All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team member as well, Lau has been a strong contributor for the Terrapins on the field throughout her three-year career. Through the 2008, 2009 and 2010 season so far, Lau carries a career batting average of .251 with 94 hits and 54 runs scored.
She is one of three ACC players to be recognized on the CoSIDA/ ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams. Carly Wynn, a senior from Florida State, was named to District III's first team and Stephanie Murad from North Carolina was named to the second team.
Maryland will close out its regular season this weekend at ACC opponent Boston College. The Terps and the Eagles will take the field Saturday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader and Sunday at 1 p.m. for a single game.
