COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The third-ranked Maryland field hockey team (14-3) rolled past Drexel, 6-2, Wednesday night at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Terrapins honored their three seniors, Jemma Buckley, Meghan Dean and Melissa Vassalotti, prior to their game vs. the Dragons (10-7).

Freshman Katie Gerzabek notched her first career hat trick and added an assist to lead the Terrapins offensively.

"It was very fitting to play Drexel, as it was Melissa's and Jemma's first starting game last year. It was great to have Meghan Dean on the sideline and all her family here," head coach Missy Meharg said. "It was really a great event."

"Katie Gerzabek is a natural goal-scorer. She finds a way and I'm pleased for her. She's one of the top scorers in the nation. It's fantastic and that's what she loves to do."

Gerzabek opened the scoring when she scored off a pass from Buckley 9:49 into the game. She tipped it in past the left post for the 1-0 Maryland lead.

Junior Megan Frazer made it 2-0 Terps five minutes later when she dribbled the ball into the circle and drilled a shot into the back corner of the cage. With just under seven minutes left in the half, Gerzabek added her second goal when the ACC's assist leader, junior Harriet Tibble, found her in front of the goal to make it 3-0 before the break.

Gerzabek added her third goal of the night just four minutes into the second half when she brought it into the circle for a hard shot that ricocheted off the backboard. She gave the Terrapins a 4-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Buckley pushed the Terps' lead to 5-0 with a score off a penalty corner setup from Tibble and Gerzabek.

Drexel avoided the shutout when Alexandra Atiyeh found Elise DiDonato on a fast break with just under 15 minutes left in the game. They added their second goal with 8:38 left in the game when Meghan Plank scored from Margaux Lourtie.

Junior Lindsey Puckett scored her second goal of the year for Maryland's sixth goal when she tipped in a pass from Buckley with under seven minutes remaining.

The Terps outshot the Dragons 25-11 and had 11 penalty corners to Drexel's two.

Vassalotti tallied four saves, while Buckley notched a defensive save. Starting Drexel keeps Kim Chiarelli had five saves. The Dragons switched goalies with 25 minutes left in the game and Brooke Underwood had four saves.

Next, the Terps will close out their regular season at Rutgers (5-11) Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex.

Maryland will play host to the ACC Tournament Nov. 3-6 in College Park. Game times for Thursday and Friday at 1 and 3:30 p.m. and Sunday's championship game will be at 1 p.m. The Terrapins earned a first round bye and will play Friday.
