COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will play host to No. 19/16 Florida State this weekend in an Atlantic Coast Conference weekend series. The Terrapins (20-13, 0-5) have won 10 of their last 14 games in the last two weeks.
The Terps and the Seminoles will take the field for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Maryland fans are encouraged to wear black to Saturday's games for a "Black Out."
Sunday's single game will begin at 1 p.m. as well. On Sunday, the Terrapins welcome all fans to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Gametracker will be available for all of this weekend's games.
Most recently, the Terps split a midweek doubleheader with RV/RV Hofstra Tuesday evening. Maryland fell 2-0 in the first game, but won 10-2 in five innings in the second game.
Eight Terrapins had hits in the second game and five had more than one hit. As a team, the Terps hit .400 in both games with 20 hits and nine RBI. Sophomore Kathy McLaughlin led with five hits in her six at-bats, while senior Alex Schultz and freshman Sara Acosta each added four.
The Maryland pitching unit of junior Kerry Hickey and sophomore Kendra Knight combined to give up only nine hits in 12 innings in the circle. They gave up four runs, two walks and 12 strikeouts. The Pride batters hit just .184 against them.
Florida State (31-6, 4-2) comes to College Park after sweeping ACC opponent Boston College in a three-game series in Tallahassee last weekend. Seminoles pitcher Terese Gober was honored Tuesday as the ACC Pitcher of the Week.
