COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A five-run bottom of the seventh topped off by a walk-off base hit gave the Maryland softball team a 10-9 win over Binghamton Sunday in the Maryland Miken Invitational. Junior Mandy Gardner's second hit of the day gave the Terps their second win of the weekend.

The Terrapins (6-14) trailed by four heading to the bottom of the seventh vs. the Bearcats (2-8), then rallied with a series of five hits to win it. Junior Shannon Bustillos singled to score two more runs. Senior Nikki Maier hit a base hit to tie the game, then Gardner stepped up to knock in Bustillos for the win.

To start things off, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Lisa Cadogan sent an RBI double to the left field wall for the advantage.

Gardner evened the score with a deep home run to center to lead off the bottom of the third. Senior Melissa Mancuso kept the offensive rally going with a single to left center, then McCann got on with a base hit to left. Lindsey Schmeiser gave Maryland a 4-1 lead with a two-out, three-run homer over the centerfield wall.

The Bearcats (2-7) took the lead back with a seven-run top of the fourth. Binghamton got the bases loaded off of a hit batter, a walk and an error with no outs. Mikala King hit a home run for a 5-4 lead. Jessica Bump hit an RBI single to make it 6-4. Sydney Harbaugh reached on a Terrapins' error that brought in another run and Tiffany McIntosh singled to make it 8-4.

Mancuso led off the bottom of the fifth with a bunt single. Sophomore Liana Newton followed that up with a well-placed loop single hit just over third base and McCann got on to load the bases with another bunt single. Strange put another Maryland run on the board to make it 8-5, but was out on the play that ended the rally.

Binghamton added a run to make it 9-5 in the top of the seventh when Lisa Cadogan hit a solo shot to left.

Freshman Maddie Martin started in the circle and pitched 3.1 with five earned runs off three hits. Sophomore Kaitlyn Schmeiser came on in the top of the fourth and allowed just one earned run off four hits in 3.2 innings.
