PHILADELPHIA – One of Maryland’s goals coming into the 120th annual Penn Relays was to take a shot at snapping the women’s shuttle hurdles relay school record set earlier this season.

On Friday afternoon, Lisa Meneau, Noella Anyangwe, Taylor Tucker and Thea LaFond snapped the mark for the second time this year, running 57.07 to cut a quarter-second off their previous record.

The Terrapins finished second in their heat to Coastal Carolina and placed fourth in the relay.

Prior to this season, the school record of 57.69 had held up since 2002.

Also on Friday, the Maryland men’s 4x200 relay squad of John Davenport, Lionel Wilson, Trey Sherman and Avery Graham went 1:27.20, posting the fifth-best time in Terp history. Maryland’s quartet finished in 24th in the college division.

Senior Amina Smith finished fourth in the women’s high jump at 5-9.25. The event was won by Tynita Butts of East Carolina, whose clearance of 6-2.75 is the best mark in the nation so far this season.

Earlier in the day, LaFond went 42-5.50 to place fifth in the women’s triple jump.

On Thursday, Rebecca Yep posted a personal record by 0.02 seconds by going 17:08.97 in the Olympic Development women’s 5,000. Her mark stands eighth on the Terps’ all-time list.

Sophomore Cici Onyekwere finished third in the college division women’s shot put at 49-0.25.

The men’s sprint medley relay was 22nd overall in a time of 3:28.57, as John Davenport, Avery Graham, Lionel Wilson and Mamadou Niang now rank fifth all-time at Maryland.

Arielle Statham, Micha Powell, Shade Pratt and Myah Hicks went 3:55.94 in the women’s sprint medley relay to finish 12th and post the third-best time ever at Maryland.

Saturday’s events for the Terps were highlighted by Pat Cole in the men’s hammer. He placed ninth in the college division with a PR of 183-6, moving him into third all-time at Maryland.
