COLLEGE PARK, Md. – As part of the University of Maryland’s Homecoming weekend this Saturday, the Terrapins track and field program will honor the members of the ACC champion 2-mile relay team from 1973.

Al Carey, John Meehan, Ed Bailor and Ken Umbarger were the members of the relay team that won that event at the 1973 ACC Indoor meet. Their time of 7:41.4 set a school and meet record at the time, snapping the old mark by six seconds.

They helped Maryland go on to control the team championship, scoring 81 points and far outpacing North Carolina, which was second with 36.

Other members of the Maryland track and field alumni will also be in attendance at the event.
