LaFond Qualifies for NCAAs in High Jump

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Thea LaFond punched her ticket to the 2013 NCAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a stellar showing in the high jump to lead the Terps at the NCAA East Regionals Friday.

LaFond tied for first place in the high jump with no misses throughout the competition. She cleared 5'11 1/4" on her first attempt to secure a place at the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Eugene, Ore.

Amber Melville placed 15th in the high jump with a mark of 5'9 3/4" and Amina Smith jumped 5'9 3/4" to finish 22nd in the competition.

Moriah Young placed 24th in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.81m (179'10"). Young will compete in the shot put on Saturday.

The final day of competition will start tomorrow with Young and Chioma Onyekwere in the shot put. LaFond will come back to compete in the triple jump. Both events will begin at 5:30pm on Saturday.
