Sinkovitz, Young Lead Terps in Split Weekend

Julie Sinkovitz and Moriah Young led Maryland on day one as the team competes at the Florida Relays and the Duke Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Sinkovitz had a strong run in the 800m to pace the Terps at the Florida Relays, posting a time of 2:08.66 for her first 800m race of the outdoor season. Myah Hicks also performed well in the 800m with a mark of 2:09.40.

On the men's side, Mamadou Niang ran a 1:53.74 in the 800m.

The Terps also had a strong showing in the high jump as Amber Melville and Thea LaFond tied for second place. Both ladies cleared 5'9 1/4" to perform at the top of the field.

At the Duke Invitational, Young won the women's hammer with a throw of 55.64m (182-06) to top the a competitive field. Sonya Napariu placed 9th in the hammer after achieving a mark of 45.80m (150-03).

In the men's hammer, Pat Cole placed fourth with a distance of 55.34m (181-07). Becky Yep gave the Terps a solid performance for the second week in a row in the 5000m run. Yep ran 17:08.99 to place third overall in the event.

Brian Faherty also performed well in the 5k, finishing with a time of 14:45.72.

The Terps continue action in both meets on Saturday.
