GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland's Allison Carney was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Week following her performance at Saturday's Maryland Invitational. The sophomore trailblazer finished second with a time of 17:54.14 in the 5,000-kilometer race to lead the Terps to a second place team finish.
"Allison came up with a huge, huge run today for us," said Maryland Coach Trent Sanderson following the race. "We have a lot on our plate in the next week, so for her to run the way she did was great."
American's Keira Caristrom completed the course in 17:37.5, defeating Carney by 19 seconds. American placed four runners in the top 10 to score 33 points, edging the Terps who finished with 40 points.
This is Carney's first Performer of the Week honor of her career, as well as the Terps' first nod of the 2003 season. The Las Vegas, Nev. native was also inducted into The National Society of Collegiate Scholars on Sunday, Oct. 12.
