The Maryland women and Appalachian men took the team titles in the Appalachian Open cross country meet, held today at State Farm Field in Boone.
Appalachian's Mike Reed took top honors in the mens race with a time of 25:54.5. Maryland's Adam Ambrus and Mike Prada finished in second and third place with times of 25:58.3 and 26:03.2, respectively. The Terps finished second as a team.
UNC Asheville's Phil Latter finished in fourth with a time of 26:05.4. Rounding out the top five was ASU's Lance Parker with a time of 26:05.7. Other top ten ASU finishers were Carson Blackwelder, in sixth, and Ryan Toler, in tenth place.
Maryland edged out ASU by four points to take the women's team title. Top individual honors went to Winthrop's Stephanie Vangsne with a time of 18:12.5. ASU's top finisher was Sarah Primeau who came in second with a time of 18:19.1. Maryland's top finisher, Katie Purcell who finished with a time of 18:33.5, good enough for third place.
ASU's Alisha Little and UNC Asheville's Micki Logue rounded out the top five with times of 18:48.1 and 19:01, respectively. ASU's Jennifer Kelley was the only other Mountaineer in the top ten, with a seventh place finish and a time of 19:09.6.
