PRINCETON, N.J. - Terrapin sophomore distance runner Matt Sanders posted a season-best mark in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to highlight the Maryland track & field team's Day 1 performances at the IC4A-ECAC Championships. The Terps are participating all weekend in the event on the campus of Princeton University.
Sanders finished ninth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:03.51 -- a mark that qualifies the second-year runner for the NCAA regional meet that will be held later this month in Randalls Island, N.Y.
Junior distance runner Cori Koch placed seventh on Friday in the women's 10,000 meters, representing the Terp women with a season-best mark as well. Koch earned the Terrapin team two points by completing the event in 36:14.71. The Terps are tied for 14th place after three events were scored on Friday.
Also on the women's side, sophomore Meghan Braffet placed 21st in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:43.54.
For the men, sophomore Peter Hess finished 24th in the men's 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:55.73.
