COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland track coach Bill Goodman has announced the signing of 13 women to national letters of intent.

The recruiting class is one of the most decorated in school history, as eight of the eleven signees earned high school state championships and four were high school All-Americans.

The list includes five Maryland residents, one from Delaware, one from British Columbia, and two each from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Among those signed, there are six sprinters, one pole-vaulter, and two jumpers, throwers, and distance runners.

Head coach Bill Goodman on this year's recruiting class:
"I believe we can be looked at as one of the top teams in the ACC as far as the recruiting class that we have. I told (assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Donald Thomas) to think big and recruit like a big-time recruiter, and that's what he ended up doing.

We were concerned about replacing people who were leaving like Nikki Webster, Tesheya Hoist, and Dessalyn (Jolley). I think we were able to do that and even go beyond that in terms of the people we have.

We have four jumpers coming in who (jump) over 19 feet or right around 19 feet. We have two excellent throwers, we have several quarter-milers, and we have some sprinters who can run the quarter mile. We also got a distance runner from Canada and another one from Pennsylvania, as well as two really special girls from Baltimore.

We feel very good about it; we feel very fortunate and we're looking forward to working with them."
