COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland track and field had several individuals compete Thursday in the 113th annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia at Franklin Field.
Junior Toni Aluko highlighted Maryland's performances with a second-place finish in the women's high jump. Aluko, who captured the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference title in the event last weekend, posted an ECAC-qualifying mark of 5-7.75.
Also posting ECAC-qualifying marks Thursday were senior Zakiya Shivers and junior Aysha Gregory in the women's hammer throw. Shivers came in seventh (173-2) while Gregory followed in eighth with a mark of 172-2.
Shivers went on to finish 16th in the women's discus throw with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 141-9.
On the men's side, freshman Greg Kelsey ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:32.77 to finish 14th in the event.
Competition at the Penn Relays will continue Friday and will run through Saturday evening.
