BLACKSBURG, Va. - Terps track and field throwers had one final chance to qualify for next weekend's ECAC Championships on Saturday at the aptly-named Virginia Tech Last Chance meet. The meet, held at the Virginia Tech's Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, Va., saw throwers Zakiya Shivers and Bria Johnson compete for qualifying marks.
Johnson finished fifth in the shot put, throwing a distance of 42-5.25, and Shivers took 10th with her mark of 39-6.5. However, despite their effort, both fell short of the ECAC-qualifying distance of 44-1.5.
Senior weight throw competitor Aranda Brown also represented the Terps, attempting to better her qualifying mark of 55-1.5, a season-high recorded at last weekend's ACC Championships. She fell short of that goal but still finished in the top 10, taking seventh overall with a distance of 54-3.75.
This week, the Terps will send several athletes to the North Carolina Indoor Madness Meet, where athletes will vie for NCAA-qualifying marks. Next weekend, Brown will join her teammates at the ECAC Championships in Boston.
