NEW YORK - Freshman Erin Matyus won her heat and finished third overall in the women's mile and Dominic Berger made a Friday night appearance in the 100th Annual Millrose Games at historic Madison Square Garden to highlight University of Maryland indoor track and field performances this weekend.

Matyus ran 5:00.49 in the women's mile at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the Armory Track to post the best mark of the season by a Terrapin performer in that event. Her time was a season-best by five seconds and qualified her for the ECAC Indoor Championships coming up next month.

Berger, an All-American for the Terps, was invited to participate in the college 60-meter hurdles at the Millrose Games for the second time. He ran 7.82 to place second behind Thomas Hilliard of South Carolina, who ran 7.80. Berger also ran at the New Balance Invitational, finishing third overall.

Also for Maryland at the New Balance Invitational, David Edwards-Brennan had a season-best mark of 6 feet, 9 inches to finish second in the men's high jump. His mark also qualified him for the IC4A Indoor Championships.

Three Terrapins ran their best marks of the season in the men's 3,000 meters as Josh Davis (8:37.85), Pete Hess (8:38.24) and Ben Diestel (8:40.65) all ran well. Davis and Diestel each improved their previous bests by at least 10 seconds.

Other Maryland men who posted season-bests were Sal Delhierro (48-3.25 in the shot put) and Adam Durham (8.12 in the 60 hurdles). Jason Allen got a top-10 finish by tying for 10th in the men's long jump.

Junior Natasha Emmanuel had strong performances for Maryland. She went 57.81 in the women's 400 meters to post a season-best, then came back with a 25.38 in the 200 meters for the best mark by a Terrapin this season in that event. Chanel Williams went 25.40 in the 200 to also post a season-best.

Other season-best marks by Maryland women this weekend included Kristin Reed, whose 10:10.73 in the 3,000 meters was her best by 16 seconds, and Tiffani Long, who ran 8.04 in the 60 meters.

Maryland is scheduled to take next weekend off before competing on Feb. 16-17 at the Virginia Tech Challenge. The Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships will be Feb. 22-24 at Clemson.
