ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior Lynn Hernandez of the University of Maryland won a pair of events Saturday, leading the Terrapins to a second-place finish in the team standings at the Navy Invitational outdoor track and field meet.

Hernandez won the 200-meter dash (24.99 seconds) and the long jump (19 feet, 11 inches) for the Terps. Her mark in the long jump hit the qualifying standard for the NCAA Regional meet in May. It also ranked seventh on the all-time list for the Terps.

Maryland's women finished with 125 team points. Navy won both the women's and men's team events, scoring 155 points on the women's side and 233 for the men. Maryland was third in the men's team standings with 84 points.

For the second straight week, the women's throwers fared well in an outdoor meet. Zakiya Shivers won the discus at 140-7, qualifying for the ECAC Championships and ranking third on Maryland's recent list of top marks. Bria Johnson was second in the discus and won the shot put at 43-4.25, just ahead of Shivers. Jillian Anwah won the women's hammer throw at 151-0.

Also winning for the Maryland women were Meghan Braffet, whose mark of 16:52.52 easily qualified her for the ECAC meet, was less than a second off the NCAA regional time and was second all-time for the Terps. Zhanna Barer of Maryland won the pole vault in an ECAC qualifying mark of 11-11.75, also the second-best all time, and Shari Gorga continued to continually break her own school record in the 3,000 steeplechase, winning yesterday in 11:02.61.

Danielle Siebert of Maryland won the 800 meters in 2:12.78, Jasmine Artis tied for the win in the high jump at 5-3, and Amanda Radziminski captured the 400 hurdles in 1:03.40.

On the men's side, senior Rob Frelow was one of three event-winners for Maryland. He took the 200-meter dash in 21.93, with teammate Dominic Berger going 22.21 in his first outdoor competition of the season.

Earlier in the meet, Berger won the 100-meter dash in an IC4A-qualifying mark of 10.64, while Adam Durham won the 110 hurdles in 14.85, also a qualifying mark for the IC4A meet. Peter Hess joined his teammates on the IC4A list with a 14:38.30 in the 5,000-meter run, finishing second on Saturday.

Maryland will host its lone outdoor meet of the season next Saturday when the Terrapin Invitational takes place at the Kehoe Track and Field Complex. First events on April 2 are at 10 a.m.
