FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior Rob Frelow qualified for the NCAA East Regional and junior thrower Zakiya Shivers won twice for the women to highlight University of Maryland performances Saturday at the Patriot Open track and field meet hosted by George Mason University.

Frelow won the men's 400 meters in an NCAA-qualifying time of 46.64. It was his first time under 47 seconds this season and easily put him past the 47.26 standard which qualifies him for the East Regional, to be held in late May in Manhattan. Frelow became the seventh Terrapin student-athlete and the third male to earn a trip to the regional.

Shivers won the women's discus with a throw of 144 feet, 5 inches, the best of the season by a Terrapin by nearly four feet. Bria Johnson also had a season-best at 135-7 to finish third. Earlier in the meet, Shivers had won the women's hammer at 160-8.

Maryland dominated the field events Saturday, with freshman Jillian Anwah posting an outstanding mark to win the women's shot put. She had a mark of 46-2, the best by a Terp this season, an ECAC-qualifier and three feet past her pervious season-best. Aysha Gregory was third at 42-6.75, with Shivers fourth at 42-4.25.

Lynn Hernandez of Maryland won the women's long jump at 20-5.25, while Amanda Radziminski won the 400 hurdles in a season-best 1:01.81. Kierra Foster went 14.04 to post the best mark in the 100 hurdles prelimns, but did not run in the final.

Other Terp women posting season-bests on Saturday included Renee Clarke (54.90, 400 meters), Danielle Siebert (2:10.75, 800 meters), Ashley Tremblay (4:54.80, 1500 meters) and the 4x100 relay team (winning time of 46.19).

Also for the Terrapin men, freshman Earl Gray won the 200-meter dash in a season-best 21.87. Adam Durham posted a season-best in the 400 hurdles at 54.00, while the Maryland men's 4x100 relay team won with a season-best 41.21.
