SILVER SPRING, Md. - The Maryland Track and Field team recently took time to visit the Silver Spring Branch of Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington during their winter break.
"I feel free to change the world!" said junior heptathlete Katie Rogus. "It was fun teaching them track skills, and seeing how eager they were to participate. They were so excited to have us there."
The kids were placed into groups and then rotated through various stations, each offering a different activity relevant to track and field. Activities included jump rope, standing long jump, throwing, stretching, relay runs and green hurdle drills.
At the conclusion of the activities, a member of each group was chosen to answer why they believed education was important for success, and received a Nike hat with the phrase "Education is Key" inscribed on the back for their participation.
"It feels great to go and teach something new to the kids. It was actually fun to go work with them. It brings some joy to your day." added senior sprinter, Sean Lowe.
The Silver Spring Branch of Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington offers various after school activities designed to help boys and girls build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults.
