NEW YORK - Kierra Foster and Lynn Hernandez finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the women's long jump to highlight Saturday's performances by the University of Maryland at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational indoor track and field meet.
Foster finished with a mark of 19 feet, 11.50 inches to place fifth in a top-class field. Hernandez was just behind at 19-10.75, as the Terps put two student-athletes in the final.
Tina Harris of LSU won the event at 20-9.25.
Highlighting men's efforts on Saturday, Maryland's distance medley relay squad finished fifth but cut 25 seconds off its previous season-best. The Terps ran 9:53.83 in the event, placing just over nine seconds behind first-place Pittsburgh.
Maryland's previous season-best in the DMR was 10:18. The new time moved them up the qualifying list for the IC4A Indoor Championships to be held in March.
