COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland track teams will travel to Boston, Mass., this weekend to compete at the ECAC and IC4A Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
The women's team has qualified 13 athletes and two relay teams for the Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. Sophomore Tia Burley (Baltimore, Md.) and redshirt freshman Toni Jefferson (Baltimore, Md.) have each qualified in three events, while sophomores Rashida Twiggs (Blue Bell, Pa.) and Punnie Chittchang (Mount Airy, Md.) have each qualified in two events. In addition, the 4x400 relay team and the distance medley relay team have qualified.
The men's team has qualified five athletes and the 4x400 relay team for the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Championships. Juniors Dontae Bugg (Newport News, Va.) and Phillip Barrett (Upper Marlboro, Md.) have both qualified in the 55 hurdles and 60 hurdles, freshman Harold Manning (Glen Burnie, Md.) has qualified in the 60 meters and the 200 meters, sophomore John Collins (Clarksburg, Md.) has qualified in the weight throw, and senior Cedrick Rogers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) has qualified in the long jump.
The Terps will look to qualify more athletes for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 9-10 in Fayetteville, Ark. On the women's team, junior Ruth Kura (North Potomac, Md.), sophomore Lynn Harris (Newark, Del.), senior Vanessa Jones (Olney, Md.), and Chittchang have each provisionally qualified for the meet.
