COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A field of 25 collegiate track and field teams, led by an improving University of Maryland squad, are expected to compete Saturday at the 2005 Maryland Indoor Invitational to be held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.

Maryland will be joined by area schools such as Georgetown, Catholic, Howard, American, Virginia and George Mason and a host of others at the meet, which is scheduled to begin with field events at 10:30 a.m. and running events at 1 p.m. The fields will also include a number of top-quality post-collegiate athletes from the metropolitan area.

Fellow junior Lynn Hernandez ranks second behind Foster is this week's ACC performance list in the long jump.

Also off to strong starts for the Terp women are Danielle Siebert, who is second in the ACC in the mile; Katie Purcell, currently second in the league at 3,000 meters; and Bria Johnson, who has the league's second-best shot put mark thus far.

On the men's side, Maryland has shown well in a number of different events after the first two weekends of the indoor season.

Senior Adam Ambrus leads the league's performers in the 5,000 meters after his victory at the Virginia Tech Invitational last week. Other Maryland men who rank among the top three in the ACC lists are Gerrick McPhearson, a starter on the football team who is second currently at 60 meters, Rob Frelow at 400 meters, Peter Hess at 3,000 meters and Beau Fay in the 35-pound weight throw.
