PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A pair of University of Maryland school records were set as the Terrapins participated this weekend in the Penn Relays, held at storied Franklin Field.
Maryland's distance medley relay quartet of Myah Hicks, DeAnna Brown, Julie Sinkovitz and Ashley Cromartie won the college division title in 11:38.41. The old Terrapin mark of 11:41.55 was set at the 2010 Penn Relays, with Brown and Cromartie also running on that squad.
On Saturday, Maryland placed sixth in the 4x800-meter relay, with Kiani Profit, Hicks, Sinkovitz and Taylor Bumpas running 8:47.08. The old mark of 8:51.59 was set last year by Cromartie-Bumpas, Sinkovitz and Ariana Tabatabaie.
Maryland also got an individual victory from Jon Hill, who captured the men's high jump collegiate section with a mark of 6-11.50.
Maryland's quartet of Shawn David, John Davenport, Zack Ray and Floyd Hawkes ran 1:25.92 to finish fifth in the IC4A division final on Saturday, running the fourth-best mark all-time at Maryland in that event.
Individually, Ray went 51.94 to win his heat and finish sixth overall in the men's 400 hurdles.
Freshman Thea LaFond continued her strong performances in her first collegiate season by placing third in the Eastern section of the women's triple jump at 40-2.25. It was her second straight performance over 40 feet in the triple jump.
Amina Smith qualified for the championship section of the women's high jump and finished ninth at 5-7.75. In the Eastern division of that event, Amber Melville tied for second and LaFond tied for seventh at 5-6.
Maryland will host the Kehoe Twilight Meet on Thursday, May 3 on the College Park campus.
