COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland men's and women's track teams will travel to Orlando, Fla., to compete at the ACC Championships on Friday and Saturday at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Terps are coming off two consecutive home meets, each of which featured strong individual and team performances. The women's team won both competitions, while the men placed third at the Maryland Invitational and second at the Terrapin Invitational.
At last year's ACC Championships Vanessa Jones (Olney, Md.) won the high jump competition with a monstrous leap of 6-0 to help catapult the women's team to a third-place finish after a slow start. In addition to Jones, three other Terrapins garnered all-conference recognition with top-3 finishes.
The men's team was led by Cedrick Rogers (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who placed fifth in the long jump competition with a mark of 23-6. The Terps struggled to overcome a slow start and finished ninth at the meet.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. on Friday and concludes at 8:15 p.m. Saturday's events, which will include most of the event finals, starts at 10 a.m. Most of the running finals are scheduled after 4 p.m. on Saturday, and the meet will conclude at 8 p.m.
