EMMITSBURG, Md. - Senior Kim Smith (Glastonbury, Conn.) set the bar with a time of 18:42.04 to earn first place at Saturday's Mount Invitational and pace the Maryland women's cross country to their second consecutive team victory of the season. Rounding out the top three spots were Maryland's Becca Funk (18:59.23) and Laurel Jefferson (19:06.82).
The Terps completed the meet, set in Emmitsburg, Md., with a final score of 23, followed by George Washington (37), Howard (80) and Mount St. Mary's (95).
The men's team finished second in a closely contested race for the finish with a score of 53, behind American (51). Freshman Michael Porter (26:09.29) led the way for the Terps, finishing third in a three-way sprint to the finish with George Washington's Dave Azari (26.05.60) and American's Pat Burford (26:08.11).
The Terps have a three-week break before returning to action at the Paul Short Invitation in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 4.
