CLEMSON, S.C. - Toni Aluko added nearly a foot to her season-best in the women's long jump to place fifth, while Dominic Berger ran the fastest time of the day in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims to highlight University of Maryland performances Friday in the second day of the 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships being held at the Rock Norman Track at Clemson University.

After six of 17 finals, the Maryland men were in 10th in the team standings with eight points. The Terps will have two runners in both the 60 hurdles and the 400-meter final on Saturday on the men's side.

Maryland's women's team was tied for 11th place with seven points after six of 17 finals were finished.

Aluko went 19 feet, 3.25 inches in the women's long jump to finish fifth and score four points in the team standings. Her mark tied for sixth-best in Terrapin history indoors and qualified her for next month's ECAC Indoor Championships.

Also scoring for Maryland on Friday was Jillian Anwah, who was sixth in the 20-pound weight throw at 58-4.75.

On the men's side Friday, David Edwards-Brennan and Sal Delhierro had the best finishes of the day in finals for the Terps. Edwards-Brennan went a season-best 6-9.75 to finish sixth in the high jump, while Delhierro was sixth in the 35-pound weight throw at 55-11.

Maryland also picked up points from Jason Allen, who was eighth in the long jump at 22-8.50 and the distance medley relay, as Josh Davis, Anthony Walker, Tommy Friscia and Zach Martinez placed eighth in an IC4A-qualifying time of 10:08.17, which was 18 seconds better than the Terps' previous season-best in that event.

A number of Terrapins posted season-best marks on Friday at the conference meet, one of the highlights on the indoor schedule.

Aysha Gregory placed 10th in the women's weight throw at 54-5.50, going two feet past her previous season-best and qualifying her for the ECAC meet. Amanda Robotti finished the 5,000 meters in 18:30.29 for the best time in that event by a Terp this season and posting the 10th-best time indoors in Maryland history. Janea Grimes went 8.10 in the 60-meter dash for a season-best.

The women's distance medley relay team of Erin Matyus, Kristina Keegan, Melissa Mark and Lindsay Ritchings cut 17 seconds off its previous best with a 10th-place finish of 12:09.18.

The Maryland men placed four runners in Saturday finals with their times in Friday prelims. Berger will be joined by Adam Durham in the men's 60-meter hurdles final, with Durham being seeded fifth in the final after going 8.12 on Friday.

Two Terps will also be in the men's 400-meter final, with Sean Lowe having the second-best time of the day in the prelims at 48.50 and freshman Jeremy Samuels advancing in seventh position with a 49.21 time. Kyle Rauser just missed qualifying for the final in the 800 meters, with his 10th-place finish of 1:53.99 being his best of the season.

Richard Taylor had the fifth-best mark in school history with a 6.94 in the 60-meter prelims.

Virginia Tech took an 18-point lead in the women's team standings after the second of three days of competition. Miami was second with 36 points, while Clemson was third with 33 points.

In the men's team standings, five teams were within 12 points after the second day, with Clemson in first at 39 points, NC State in second with 35 and North Carolina in third with 30 points.
