Men, Women Second At Navy Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland Track and Field took second on both the men's and women's sides today at the Navy Invitational. The men finished with 60 points, ahead of American University with 40 points, and behind the Naval Academy with 203 points. The women finished the meet with 123 points, defeating Colgate University (91.5 points), George Mason University (28 points), and American University (18 points); the lady Terrapins finished behind Navy (283 points).

Sophomore Richard Taylor (Centreville, Va.) and junior Earl Gray (Marlboro, N.J.) won their respective events to score seven points each for the Terps. Taylor took the top place in the 100-meter dash (10.60), tying the tenth all-time mark in the outdoor event for Maryland and Gray finished first for the 200-meter dash. Also winning an individual event was freshman Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md.) with a first-place finish in the triple jump (46-11.75) for seven team points.

Sophomore Zach Martinez (Gaithersburg, Md.) and freshman Kevin Gahr (Northfield, N.J.) scored three points total for Maryland in the 1,500-meter run, finishing fifth (3:59.40) and sixth (4:05.60) respectively.

Sophomore Chris Haley (Union, N.J.) tallied four points for the Terps in the men's high jump finishing in third place overall (6-4.25). Haley also finished third in the long jump for four team points (21-1.5).

Sophomore Sal Delhierro (Toms River, N.J.) placed third in the discus throw (113-5) and second in the hammer throw (154-5) scoring nine total points for Maryland. Sophomore Devin Regan (Annapolis, Md.) finished third in the javelin throw (154-10) earning four team points.

On the women's side, junior Natasha Emmanuel (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Brittany Lee-Richardson (Lake Ridge, Va.) scored three total points in the 100-meter dash for their fifth- (12.44) and sixth-place (12.66) respective finishes. Scoring seven points for the Terps in the 200-meter dash was junior Christina Smith (Sicklerville, N.J.) for her first-place finish; Emmanuel took third in the event.

The Terps took the top-two places in the 400-meter dash with freshman Tolulope Olugbemi (Baltimore, Md.) in first (58.62) and freshman Natalie Goodman (Frederick, Md.) in second (59.21), together collecting 18 team points.

In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Lindsay Ritchings (Point Pleasant Point, N.J.) picked up six points for Maryland with a third-place finish (4:47.18).

Sophomore Katie Rogus (Brookeville, Md.) earned four team points for her fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.30). Rogus also tallied points in the long jump for her third-place finish (17-4.75) behind freshman Tiffani Long (Columbia, Md.) in second (18-0.25).

Freshman Tinsley Stokes (Manchester, Md.) tied for second place in the high jump for seven points (5-1). Maryland took second and third place in the pole vault with senior Zhanna Barer (Israel) scoring eight points (11-5.75) and sophomore Kaitlyn Fitzgerald (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) earning six points (11-5.75), both posting the fifth-highest all-time mark for Maryland in the outdoor event.

Freshman Ashley Carbray (Bloomfield, Conn.) finished third in the triple jump (35-6) for six points. Ashley William won the shot put (42-11.75) scoring ten points and posting the tenth-highest all-time mark for Maryland in the outdoor event. Smith placed fourth in the shot put for four team points (38-03.25).
