CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Maryland Terrapin men's track and field team finished ninth and the women's team finished 10th at the ACC Indoor Championships this weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C. Florida State edged Clemson, 162.50-160.00, to claim the men's title while Miami outscored runner-up North Carolina, 138-100, to take the women's crown.
The Terp men finished with 27 points, while the women posted 32.
Gerrick McPhearson's third-place finish in the 60-meter dash was Maryland's top individual performance on the men's side. McPhearson's time of 6.80 was his second-fastest this season, and just .06 off the winner (Walter Dix, Florida State, 6.74).
The combination of Dominic Berger, Rob Frelow, Sean Lowe and Adam Durham led Maryland to a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The relay finished behind only Florida State and Clemson in a time of 3:17.94.
Lowe added a seventh-place finish for the Terps in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.62. Peter Hess and Berger contributed eight-place finishes for Maryland, with Hess placing in the mile (4:14.70) and Berger in the 60-meter hurdles (8.44).

Bria Johnson finished third in the shot put, throwing 46-11.50 in her first attempt. Johnson's throw was over a foot further than her career best, a 45-10.75 toss at the Maryland Invitational in January.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Renee Clark, Amanda Radziminski, Kelly Wallace and Natasha Emmanuel had their best time of the season to finish seventh. The Terps finished in 3:48.99 to earn two team points.
