Berger, Durham Lead Maryland At NCAA East Regionals Day One

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Dominic Berger and senior Adam Durham led University of Maryland track and field in the first day of competition at the 2007 NCAA East Region Championships in Gainesville, Fla.

    In the prelim for the men's 110-meter hurdles, Berger finished fourth with a time of 14.27 while Durham placed seventh with a time of 14.24. Both athletes advanced to the final for the event scheduled for Saturday at 6:15 p.m. Berger ran the fastest time in his heat and Durham had one of the top-four times after heat winners advanced.

    Durham also ran in the prelim for the men's 400-meter hurdles. He finished 26th with a time of 53.52.

    In the men's 400-meter dash, sophomore Sean Lowe finished tenth with a time of 47.03, just 0.01 seconds from his season-best time of 47.02 set at the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships.

    On the women's side, junior Toni Aluko tied for ninth place in the high jump with Kerstin Greene of Fordham, Rebecca Christianson of Harvard, Bonnie Meekins of William and Mary, and Brittany Robinson of Morgan State. Aluko posted a 5-7.25 in the event.

    Sophomore Chanel Williams competed in two events Friday. In the prelim for the women's 100-meter hurdles, Williams finished 23rd with a time of 14.05 and in the prelim for the women's 400-meter hurdles, she placed 18th with a time of 1:01.02.

    The NCAA East Region Championships will resume Saturday at the University of Florida's James G. Pressly Stadium at Percey Beard Track. Field events are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. and track events will start at 5:30 p.m. Live Results for tomorrow's events are linked to this release.

    Saturday, in addition to Berger and Durham in the final for the men's 110-meter hurdles, Maryland will have sophomore David Edwards-Brennan compete in the men's high jump, junior Toni Aluko compete in the triple jump, and in the women's discus throw, senior Zakiya Shivers and junior Jillian Anwah.
