BRONX, N.Y. - Allison Carney (Las Vegas, Nev.) may have missed qualifying for the 2003 cross country national championships, but she'd never miss the chance to put her best foot forward for the team. The sophomore trailblazer placed second at the 95th Annual ECAC/IC4A Championships Saturday, beating her time from last year's competition by nearly 30 seconds (18:07).

Six out of seven runners placed in the top two-thirds of the field to give the Terp women a third-place finish out of eight highly competitive teams in the championship division. Danielle Siebert (Chalfont, Pa.), who has emerged as a dominant force in the second half of the season, came in at No. 12 with a time of 18:33. Becca Funk (Millersville, Md.) put in one of the best performances of her career, finishing in 18:57 and in 23rd-place.

"I'm very happy with the performances that the women ran in the championship division this year," Maryland coach Trent Sanderson said. "The third-place finish was our best performance in a decade. We finished third two years ago but that was in the University race and not the elite [Championship] one."

Carney, Siebert and Funk all received All-East honors for their performances at the ECAC competition.

Adam Ambrus (Shamong, N.J.) joined the trio by earning All-East accolades. The junior led the Terp men for the sixth time this season, coming in at No. 7 in the field of 141 runners with a time of 25:23 in the 5-mile race. Also posting strong performances were Mike Prada and Mike Fleg, who finished in 36th and 70th place, respectively. The men finished in 13th place out of 16 highly competitive teams in the IC4A Championships.
