Matyus Leads Terp Women to Princeton Title

PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Erin Matyus covered the 6-kilometer course in 22:02.5 to win the individual title and spark the University of Maryland to the team title in the women's race at the Princeton Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

Matyus finished over eight seconds ahead of teammate Kristin Reed to earn the individual win. Those two Terrapins led four Maryland finishers in the top 10, as Lindsay Ritchings was ninth in 22:38.6 and Angeli Sivaraman posted her best finish of the fall to place 10th at 22:40.5.

As a team, Maryland finished with 36 points to beat Bucknell, which ended with 53. Duquesne was third at 114.

Andrea Rothschild was the final scorer for Maryland, placing 18th in 22:52.7. Kylynn McKinley (22nd, 23:06.6) and Amanda Robotti (28th, 23:15.8) were among the top seven Terps to the line on Saturday.

On the men's side, Greg Kelsey and Alex Lundy of Maryland finished second and third, respectively, to highlight Maryland finishers as the Terrapins placed fifth in the team standings.

Kelsey ran 24:13.9 over the 8K course and Lundy was just behind in 24:15.7. They were bested only by Michael Maag of Princeton, who ran 24:07.8.

The Terrapins scored 111 points, finishing behind the host Tigers (62), St. Joseph's (78) and Duquesne (79).

Also for Maryland, Kevin Gahr was 25th in 24:53.3, Richie Booth went 25:10.4 to place 41st and Mike Cator was 46th in 25:17.0. Drew Abernathy (56th) and Joe Simpson (82nd) were in the sixth and seventh spots in the standings.

Maryland participates next at the ACC Championships on Nov. 1 at North Carolina.
