Aluko Finishes Fifth at Day Two of ACC Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Senior Toni Aluko placed fifth in the high jump to earn three points for the University of Maryland and lead the Terrapins during the second day of competition at the ACC Indoor Championships at the University of North Carolina today.

Aluko posted a jump of 5-06.50 in the high jump and also finished 12th in the long jump with a mark of 17-08.00. Teammate Katie Rogus placed 22nd in the event with a long jump of 16-05.25.

The women's distance medley relay team of Christina Nelson, Kiani Profit, Melissa Mark and Erin Matyus also recorded points for the Terrapin women, with their eighth place finish in the event. The foursome posted a season-best and ECAC-qualifying time of 11:58.44 to earn one point.

On the men's side, the distance medley relay team earned two points for the Terrapins with their seventh-place finish in the event. Josh Davis, Anthony Walker, Tommy Friscia and Zach Martinez also posted a season-best and IC4A-qualifying time of 10:06.57 in the event.

Also for the Terps, Jason Allen placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 23-4.50.

In the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, Dominic Berger and Adam Durham both finished in the top-eight, to qualify for tomorrow's event finals. Berger moves into the finals as the second seed after running a 7.89 in the event. His season-best time remains 7.83, which he ran at the Virginia Tech Challenge last week. Durham will enter the finals as the sixth-seed, after posting a time of 8.05.

Also qualifying for the event finals today was Sean Lowe, who posted a time of 49.21 in the preliminaries of the 400 meters and placed fifth. In the 800 meters, Kyle Rauser ran a 1:54.19 to finish sixth and qualify for tomorrow's finals.

After the second day of competition, the Maryland women stand in 11th place with 12 total points, while the men are tied for eighth place with five team points.

The final day of the 2008 ACC Indoor Championships will kick off tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the women's shot put. Berger will look to defend his ACC Championship in the 60-meter hurdles at 12:30 p.m. Log onto for live stats of the event or for a complete roundup of the day.
