Anwah Takes Discus Throw At UVA Invite

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland track and field traveled to Charlottesville, Va. this weekend to compete in the Lou Onesty-Milton G. Abramson Invitational. The meet ran Friday, April 13 through Saturday, April 14 at the University of Virginia's Lannigan Field.

Junior Jillian Anwah (Centreville, Va.) led the Terrapins with a first-place finish in the discus throw. Anwah posted an ECAC-qualifying mark of 143-2.

Also making an ECAC-qualifying time this weekend was sophomore Chanel Williams (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) in the 400-meter hurdles. Williams finished fourth in the event with her season-best time of 1:01.39.

Freshman Christina Nelson (Little Silver, N.J.) and freshman Kasey Jamison (Annapolis, Md.) each ran season-best times in the 1,500-meter run. Nelson finished 14th with a time of 4:49.38 and Jamison had a time of 4:58.77 to finish 27th.

Freshman Ashley Carbray (Bloomfield, Conn.) posted season-best marks in two events. Carbray finished in sixth place for the long jump (17-9) and fifth in the triple jump (35-9.5).

Also establishing a season-best mark this weekend was Katelyn Poss in the hammer throw (102-7).

For the men, freshman Tommy Friscia (Union Beach, N.J.) ran a season best in the 800-meter run to finish ninth with a time of 1:55.95.

The Terps are now set to host the 2007 Outdoor Track and Field Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. ACCs will run Thursday, April 19 through Saturday, April 21 at Maryland's Kehoe Track Complex.
