COLUMBIA, MD - On Tuesday, May 22nd five current University of Maryland student-athletes traveled to Columbia to meet with students from Waterloo Elementary School. Amanda Paizs and Shelley McDuff from Women's Soccer, Tiffani Long and Tinsley Stokes from Women's Track and Field, and Allie Houseal from Women's Water Polo participated in a two and a half hour program designed to foster awareness of collegiate life as a student-athlete and to promote physical activity at a young age.

The five athletes led different workshops for the third, fourth, and fifth grade students, including demonstrations of various skills involved in their sports. The Terrapins also talked about their experiences as Maryland student-athletes, and participated in a question and answer session.

Through this experience, students from Waterloo Elementary had the opportunity to learn first hand from student-athletes the correct techniques and skills that are required for various sports. The Maryland athletes demonstrated the proper form for a track start, the techniques used in water polo, and an assortment of soccer skills.

"Speaking at the elementary school was a really fun experience" said Paizs, a junior defender on the Women's Soccer squad. "I especially enjoyed it when the kids were able to come up and try the things we were demonstrating. Getting the kids involved and seeing how excited they were really made the experience more memorable and rewarding".
