COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Six members of the University of Maryland women's track team will travel to Atlanta, Ga., this weekend to take part in the USA Indoor Track Championships.
Senior Candyce DeLoatch (Pittsgrove, N.J.), who qualified for NCAA competition at the ACC Championships two weeks ago, will lead the group of Maryland athletes into the Georgia Dome for the largest meet of the season to date.
Also competing will be senior Stacey Minott (Greenburg, N.Y.), an NCAA qualifier as well, freshman Tia Burley (Baltimore, Md.), an All-ACC performer, freshmen sprinters Dionne and Devenn Hamilton (Hampton, Va.), and sophomore hurdler Thema Napier (Columbia, Md.).
The competition will provide another opportunity for athletes to qualify for NCAA competition, as well as to compete against some of the sport's finest performers.
The meet has featured many prominent track professionals in past years. Notable among last year's competitors was former Olympic gold-medallist Gail Devers.
Friday's action will begin at 1:45 p.m. and will continue until 6:30 p.m. Competition will continue on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
