TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Greg Kelsey finished his best cross-country season at the ultimate meet Monday, placing 103rd as an individual and representing Maryland at the NCAA Division I National Championships hosted by Indiana State.

Kelsey finished the 10-kilometer course in 31 minutes, 13 seconds to place among the top half of runners in the field. The Maryland graduate student, who earned both All-Atlantic Coast Conference and All Mid-Atlantic Region honors this season, fared well in the 246-athlete field.

It marked the third straight national championship that included a Maryland finisher. Alex Lundy represented the Terrapins in each of the last two nationals, but missed this season with an injury.

Samuel Chelanga of Liberty won the individual national title, finishing in 29:22.2. He beat Stephen Sambu of Arizona (29:26.5) and Luke Puskedra of Oregon (29:38.0).

Oklahoma State had its first three runners place 5-6-7 to finish with 73 points and roll to the team championship. Florida State was second at 193 with Wisconsin in third at 223.

Villanova defended its national title on the women's side, scoring 120 points to best Florida State (154), Texas Tech (165) and Georgetown (167) in a tight competition.

Sheila Reid of Villanova covered the women's 6,000-meter course in 20:06.9 to edge Emily Infeld of Georgetown (20:09.2) for the individual title.
