COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The University of Maryland's track teams resume the indoor season this weekend after a month off. The men travel to George Mason to compete in the Winter Invitational, and the women travel to the U.S. Naval Academy to compete in the Maryland State Meet. Both meets are this Saturday, Jan. 8.

The men face a large field at the Winter Invitational, consisting of 13 schools. The meet features Bethune-Cookman, Duke, George Mason, Georgetown, Hampton, Mary Washington, Univ. of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Morgan State, St. Augustine's, Syracuse, Villanova, Virginia Commonwealth and William & Mary, in addition to the Terps. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.

The women will face Western Maryland and Navy at the Maryland State Meet, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Both teams look to build on strong performances at the Bucknell Invitational last month as they prepare for their busiest stretch of the season. The Terps will compete in three additional meets in January, all of which are on the road.

DeLoatch, Minott, Porter Lead Women's Team

The 2000 edition of the women's team features five All-ACC selections, one All-American, and one of the most talented recruiting classes in the nation. The trio of seniors -- DeLoatch, Minott, and Porter -- all hold school records and all have seen considerable success in their careers at Maryland. This year's freshman class was singled out by Track and Field News as one of the nation's 12 best.

Joubert, Carr, Wu Lead Men's Team

The 2000 men's team features a blend of youth and experience that the Terps hope will translate into an improvement in the ACC standings. Like the women's team, the men are also led by a trio of seniors whose careers at Maryland have been marked by numerous accomplishments. The team will also look to a talented group of freshmen and transfers to provide a spark that it hopes will lead to a successful season.
