Rogus, Lundy Named to Academic All-District Team

June 4, 2009

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland senior Katie Rogus and sophomore Alex Lundy have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine 2009 Academic All-District Track/Cross Country Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

Rogus and Lundy garnered Academic All-District first team honors in district 2 by virtue of their academic and athletic success during the 2008-09 school year. Both Terrapin student-athletes excelled in the classroom and provided strong performances and leadership on the track. Rogus and Lundy are two of 20 honorees named to the first team in District 2, which encompasses NCAA Division I institutions in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Rogus, a native of Brookville, Md., who attended Good Counsel High School, finished her Maryland career with a perfect 4.00 GPA. The four-year letterwinner graduated last month with a degree in criminology and criminal justice.

A versatile athlete who specialized in hurdles and jumping events, Rogus placed among the top-12 in the heptathlon at the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships during each of her four seasons, accumulating 4,284 points to finish eighth in 2009. She also served as a member of Maryland's shuttle hurdle relay team, and she routinely contributed strong scores in the pentathlon during the indoor season.

Lundy, who hails from Littleton, Colo., has a 3.74 GPA while majoring in biology at Maryland. The distance runner participates both in cross country and track & field for the Terps.

During the 2008 cross country season, Lundy earned All Mid-Atlantic Region status and qualified individually for the NCAA National Championship by placing 10th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. That success carried into the track & field season, as Lundy produced a top-10 finish in the 10,000-meter run during the 2009 ACC Outdoor Championships. He also established a new personal best in the 5,000-meter run during the 2009 season.

Both Rogus and Lundy have previously received All-ACC Academic honors during their careers at Maryland, having been recognized following the 2008 track & field and cross country seasons, respectively.
