NEW YORK, N.Y. - For the third consecutive week, senior Ruth Kura (Potomac, Md.) toppled her own school record in the weight throw on the way to a first place victory to help pace the Terps track and field teams at this weekend's Armory Collegiate Invitational held in New York City.
Kura threw a whopping 66-9.25 to break her own record by over two feet. She also established a new meet record, besting the 63-2 mark set last year by Katy Craig of Ohio State.
In team results, the women's team earned 12 points to come in 11th in the Championship Division. The men, who ran in the University Division, came in eighth with 23.33 points.
Sophomore Harold Manning (Glen Burnie, Md.) had the second highest individual finish for the team coming in second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.97, just missing out on establishing a new season high in the event.
Freshman Rob Frelow (White Plains, N.Y.) was the only Terp to newly qualify for the postseason, gaining an IC4A berth after placing third in the 400 with a time of 48.32, which is the fastest time on the team this season in the event.
Also establishing a new season's best time was sophomore Toni Jefferson (Baltimore, Md.) who finished eighth in the competitive 200-meter dash. Her time of 24.37 eclipsed her season's best time by .03 seconds.
Coming off the momentum off setting the school record last weekend, the women's 4x400-meter relay team once again ran strongly. The team came in fifth with a time of 3:40.76, .37 seconds off of their best time.
For the men, senior Dontae Bugg (Newport News, Va.) had a strong outing in the 60 hurdles. He finished third in the preliminaries, clocking in at 8.27 and followed it up with a fourth place finish in the finals at 8.33.
Also faring well was high jumper junior Adrian Nelson (Washington, D.C.) who matched his season high at 6-9 to come in fourth.
Up next for the Terps will be the ACC Indoor Championships to be held Friday and Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
