NEW ORLEANS – Maryland’s track threesome of Amber Melville, Amina Smith and Thea LaFond were officially given All-America status for their performances at last weekend’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The three were recognized for earning their way into the fields for the indoor nationals by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Melville tied for seventh in the women’s high jump and was a first team All-American.
Smith, who was 12th in the women’s high jump, and LaFond, who was 11th in the pentathlon, were second-team honorees.
Maryland opens its outdoor season this weekend at Texas-El Paso and will play host to the Terrapin Invitational on Saturday, March 29.
