COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland wrestling team welcomed past wrestlers and fans alike at the ninth annual Wrestling Golf Outing at the University of Maryland Golf Course Friday.
A total of 110 golfers participated in the event, which is held to support the wrestling program.
“The biggest thing here is to promote our program and raise money to help do the things above and beyond what we already can do,” assistant coach and event organizer Mike Catullo said. “It’s a beautiful day.”
The event began with a breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by the beginning of play at 8 a.m. The Maryland cheerleaders also were out to help raise money.
“Without help like that, the event doesn’t go on,” Catullo said. “All the donors and everybody that sponsored the event made this day a success.”
A lunch and awards ceremony capped the day. Head coach Kerry McCoy was excited to welcome all the supporters as the Terps embark on their first season in the Big Ten.
“This is huge. It gives our fans and alumni the chance to be here and support our program,” McCoy said. “It’s an all-around great event and I’m excited that we’ve had the success that we’ve had. It’s a great thing for our program.”
