GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Emily Gimpel was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team for women’s golf, announced by league commissioner John Swofford.
Gimpel, a kinesiology major, averaged a round score of 77.06 for the spring and a 75.53 average for the fall. She finished tied for 31st place with a 6-over score of 222 (74-76-72) at the Web.com Intercollegiate and tied for 13th at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic with a score of 221 (71-75-75).
A native of Lafayette Hill, Pa., Gimpel became only the third Terrapin to win All-ACC Academic honors three times.
All 11 ACC schools that compete in women's golf are represented on this year's academic team. Duke, Notre Dame, Miami and Wake Forest lead the way with four honorees each. Clemson, Florida State claimed three players apiece while Boston College, North Carolina and NC State each placed two players. Maryland and Virginia landed one player each to complete the team.
Brittany Marchand of NC State was tabbed ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
