Maryland Sends Five To NCAA Regional Gymnastics Meet

April 5, 2002

The University of Maryland women's gymnastics team will send five representatives to compete in the southeast NCAA Regional meet Saturday, April 6. Seniors Gillian Cote and Lisa Mealey, and freshman Leah Brill will all compete in the all-around competition, sophomore Sarah Hoenig will compete on the balance beam, and senior Alyssa Mealey will compete on the floor exercise.

In order to advance to NCAA Nationals, the all-around competitors will have to finish as the top-two competitors behind those all around competitors on the first or second place teams. As for the event specialists, they will have to win their event to advance to nationals.

Maryland failed to qualify for regionals as a team for the first time since 1997 despite finishing the regular season as the No. 29 team in the country.
