Cote Receives Directors Scholarship

Sept. 10, 2001

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.), co-captain of the Maryland women's gymnastics team, has been selected to receive the Directors Scholarship. The award is given by the Director of the Maryland Educational Foundation and is a result of contributions of the Board of Governors of the Maryland Educational Foundation.

Richard L. Corrigan, Director of the Maryland Educational Foundation, said that those who contributed to the scholarship "believe deeply in the balanced concept of the student-athlete." Cote has been recognized as one of the top student-athletes at Maryland, maintaining a cumulative 4.0 grade point average and becoming one of the first Terrapin gymnasts to earn All-American status.

In January, Cote will begin her final season at Maryland as one of the top returnees on the team. The opening meet of the 2002 season is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 20 at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas.
