Terp Gymnasts Place 2nd In 3-Way Meet At Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - University of Maryland's Lisa Mealey finished third in the all-around with a score of 38.875 but it wasn't enough to overtake Penn State University in a three-way women's gymnastics meet here Saturday.

The host Nittany Lions, behind all-arounders Katie Rowland and Katie McAvoy, posted a team score of 195.800 to defeat the Terrapins (194.075) and Rhode Island (191.500). Rowland (39.725) and McAvoy were the top all-arounders. Maryland's Gillian Cote was sixth in the all-around with a score of 38.450.

Maryland's Alyssa Mealey was second on the floor exercise (9.850) and Cote was tied for third on the balance beam with teammate Sarah Hoenig (9.900). Cote also finished tied for second on the uneven bars with teammate Lisa Mealey (9.850). Maryland's Leah Brill was the Terps' top finisher on the vault, placing third with a score of 9.850.
