COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior gymnast Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) received national honors again by being named to the 2001-02 Verizon Academic All-American at-large team. Cote was also named to the team last season, and has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average through four years at the University of Maryland.

Maryland's female student-athlete of the year, Cote graduated in May with a double major in history and philosophy. An All-EAGL first-team selection, she holds Maryland's all-around record score of 39.625. Cote rounded out her four-year stint on the EAGL All-Academic team by finishing the year as the only senior to maintain a 4.0 throughout her collegiate career. She was selected as the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Scholar Athlete of the Year in both 2001 and 2002. An NCAA All-American selection in 2001, Cote has also been selected to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastic Coaches/Women (NACGC-W) Scholastic All-American team for two consecutive years in 2000 and 2001.

Cote is one of this year's Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship recipients from the Atlantic Coast Conference. She is very active in community service and has received the ACC's Community Service Award for two consecutive years. She was named an ACC Scholar-Athlete for the past four years and was initiated into the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society this year.
