COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland senior long stick midfielder Michael Ehrhardt is one of 10 lacrosse student-athletes who excel both on and off the field that were selected as finalists today for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate men’s lacrosse.
This is the fourth straight season Maryland has had a Senior CLASS Award finalist, which is the longest streak of any college or university.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.
Ehrhardt has proven to be a fine example in each of the four areas highlighted by the Senior CLASS Award. The 2013 second team All-American has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills throughout his time at Maryland and was voted a 2014 team captain by his teammates and coaches. For the past three years he has been a part of Maryland’s Student Athletic Advisory Council as the voice and leader in a group of other student-athletes involved with the Athletic Department.
A communications major, Ehrhardt is also an active member of the community both in College Park at Maryland and at home in Westbury, N.Y. He has served as a mentor in the Big Brother Program at Hyattsville Elementary School and has also volunteered at several clinics
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 20 candidates announced in February. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through May 12. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Baltimore May 24-26. For more information on all the finalists, visit seniorCLASSaward.com.
