GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland junior linebacker L.A. Goree earned Atlantic Coast Conference Linebacker of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.
The native of Bowie, Md., had a career high and Maryland season-high 16 tackles in the Terps’ 27-26 win over Virginia on Saturday to move Maryland to 5-1 on the season. Of Goree’s 16 stops, nine were solo tackles and he added one tackle for a loss of two yards.
Goree’s 16 tackles is the most by a Maryland player since Demetrius Hartsfield totaled 18 at NC State to close the 2011 season (Nov. 26, 2011).
Goree is the fifth Maryland player to earn ACC weekly honors this season. Following Maryland’s 47-10 win over Old Dominion, Stefon Diggs was named ACC Receiver of the Week, while Dexter McDougle and Marcus Whitfield earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors and ACC Linebacker of the Week honors, respectively, after the Terps defeated Connecticut.
Most recently, defensive back A.J. Hendy earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors after Maryland’s 37-0 win over West Virginia.
The Terps travel to Winston-Salem to face Wake Forest on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled 3:30 p.m. Maryland returns home on Oct. 26 to take on third-ranked Clemson at 3:30 p.m. from Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
